Hello everyone, My home isn't really big. I live in town so I've turned my little area into a small piece of nature where I can get back to the country which I'm a country girl at heart.

I have five small flowerbed areas around my home and my favorite area is my big blackberry bush. Last year I had berries the size of quarters big and juicey! This year we're off to a great start I've cut it back watched it bud flowers and I'm letting the bees do their work the berries are already forming. With three children you can imagine how quick the berries go so I transplanted a small piece of the berry bush into a pot and I'm going to get a second bush growing. I like to freeze some of the berries so we have them over the winter months. Berries are a great source of so much stuff the body really needs they work wonders on the immune system.

Today it's quite hot out in the mid 80's so I'm staying in doors keeping cool with the little one Madi and tonight like each night I'll go out and water everything really good.

So stop in here and time to talk with me. We can sit on the deck under the big pine tree and just listen to the birds and watch the squirrels go crazy you might even see Rocky our favorite squirrel he does tricks for peanuts. He lays out like a bear skin rug, It's so cute.

I hope each one of you will make a place here in the gathering like me In The Garden so we can really get to know each other and talk like long time friends. What is your garden like? (Make each one of your personal threads a Sticky so we can find them easy)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We had a terrible thunderstorm the other day. Tree limbs down all over the yard, pieces of roof tops as well. Fun thing is I just got done cleaning up the mess from the storm the day before and another one hit us. We believe a tornado blew thru because all over town trees where up rooted, tree limbs down, garbage cans turned over and trees in homes even and a roof off the recylcing center. We had dime size hail and flooding that happened so quick it was a white out condition. So I spent yesturday cleaning that mess up with more storms to come.

Thank goodness no one was hurt and my blackberry bush is still standing. I remember the first year I planted it we had a bad storm that snapped the main branch but it survived then and it survived this last storm. My roses are in full bloom now and I've got small tomatoe plants growing with pumpkin and watermelon this year. I planted the pumpkin are by my front walkway so I can leave them on the vines and place candles out between them this fall. It will be Madi's first birthday party and with it so close to Halloween we're invited the family over for a Halloween Birthday Party. It was strange to see my pumpkin plants blown over by the storm, one here one there this one not touched still standing tall while the one next to it blown right to the ground. But it looks like they have all made it thru as well.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Morning everyone. I hope you all had a nice weekend! I took the girls to the pool yesturday they all had a great time. School is out for the summer and as soon as we walked in my daughter Bea had friends calling her over to swim with them. Bea and a little boy Eric are both really popular with the kids and their just going into second grade now. My oldest daughter had a few of her friends there as well but being they're older you know they play it cool. Myself and Madi as so met up with a friend one of the other mother was there and we sat with her while Madi napped then we took Madi to the toddler pool. Madi loved it. So Sunday went well for us just enjoying ourselves and resting up from the long working week before.

Please feel free to stop in and visit me any time. I'm always in the garden planting and carrying for my flowers. Bea just planted some watermelon the other day to go with our pumpkins she'll be happy we the first seedling pops up. Our pumpkin seedlings are about three inches high now.

With summer vacation here we like to do a lot of different things with the girls. And fathers day around the corner will be our next full day outing. Fishing with dad. What does your family do for father's day?

Boy have I been busy in the garden this past week. My pumpkin seeds are growing really well, waiting for the first pumpkin siting though. The watermelon is popping up and my tomotoes are in bloom now we just need them to start turning red. I like to mix my veggies with my flowers because it helps with bugs. The roses are in full bloom but this heat isn't helping them much. Strawberries are red and ready to eat which keeps me watching the blackberries. My bush is twice in size this year. It's about 5 feet by 7 ft in size.

The girls small pool is up and I can't wait for Madi to get into it with them she'll love it. These next few days will be great for that being the temp's are raising again.

Now I'm going on and on someone please come visit me and tell me all about your gardens.

Hello, me again!,- You'd never guess it to look at me, but I spent 6 years of my childhood on a farm in Tennessee. - My parents had a fairly large garden, with green beans, tomatoes, corn and squash; Okra and eggplant and peas and potatoes. - My beloved mother still gardens, tomatoes, mostly.
I haven't a clue what I'm doing wrong, but all I've been able to grow so far are thistles and devil's trumpet, (a common local 'weed'). -We have moon flowers, but I have to give full credit for them to my other half. -Until we moved, he had the lovliest rose bushes.
My compliments on your 'green thumb'! Brightest Blessings,-

Well I have to say that's mostly my granny's doing. As a child before we would leave from visiting her she would walk us around her gardens showing us all the new plants she got and would tell us a story with each one, how they got their name, what they're used for health wise and superstitious. My granny was half Indian. So I learned alot from her even though she was only with me for what seemed like a blink of an eye she died when I was 11 from cancer but what she taught me stuck with me because I loved her so much.

I have to say violets don't like me if I plant them outside they do great but if I try to keep one in the house they always die and I can't figure out why.

Hello Everyone !
Listening to everyone talk about gardening, makes me wish that I could have one. I just love to 'tinker' around with plants of any type. It is very relaxing, and you get a great feeling of accomplishment (not to mention a lot of really good things to eat). Unfortunately, where I reside right now, it is impossible for me to do any type of gardening, because I just do not have any room. I have to resign myself to just listening to the progress of others, and rectify the situation next year!
Autumn, I can tell that you have been gardening for awhile, because
planting certain flowers with, and/or around the veggies, is the perfect
(natural) insect deterrant ! I applaud you ! Your discription of your black
berry bush has me in high anticipation of the berries comming into season
around here. There are wild 'patches' all over the place!
I wish everyone the best with your projects, and may all your gardens,
whether veggie or flower, be tended and watched over by the fair folk!
Do not forget to leave them refreshments, because gardening is very
thirsty work !

Sincerely,
Blix

Hello again,
I cannot believe that I posted the same message twice. I guess that is what happens when one is very tired, and attempts to do something which should probably best be left until a little later!
Therefore, before I do something else uh....interesting....I will bid you all adieu! , ,

I must say the weather is extremely warm these days. My garden needs my help

I try to water it early morning because at night with the heat it just evaporates so I want it to get as much as possible to drink in the morning for the next day. If it cools a bit at night I'll water it then as well.

Well I'm off to venture out for a while.........

Safe Journey everyone

Good for you Cobweb, let me know how you do with them. I would like to try lavender and rosemary but I'm afriad I might not do well at it. I've never tried to grow those yet.

I have good news today. When watering my blackberry bush I found a few berries starting to ripen. I'm so excited! Which brings me to a question for all who love to garden. I have some wild mushrooms growing around the blackberry bush. Does anyone know a healing use for them or a spell in need of them?

I like to find uses for new things I find in my garden. So I'm always eager to learn more if you'd like to talk about uses for flowers.

On a sad note here. My husbands grandmother pass on over the weekend. With some miss understandings in the family when his grandfather died I didn't want to have the girls see any family feuding so I stayed away from the hospital when they were giving her, her last rights.

I received the call Sunday morning and it really didn't start to hit me emotionally until now with everything happening Tomorrow. I really liked his grandparents and his grandmother reminded me of my granny.
I'm not sure if I want to go to the viewing because it's effecting me in away that's different from the family, it fills my heart with all the saddness from missing my granny and now that they meet in the otherworld I know they'll have much to talk about she was a very kind woman and her gift to me was her kindness and how she gave me glimspes of what I had forgotten as a child when my own grandmother died.

I'm afraid I will now with time forget them again, I know my mind is now of an adult but it took so long to remember things I wonder if they will once again disappear. His grandmother lived a long healthy life, very nice woman who welcomed me into the family. I loved playing bingo with her and she would just talk forever with me. I came to think of her as a second grandmother to me.

Autumn,
I am sorry to hear about the physical loss of someone so dear, which you have just suffered. My own Grandmother has been transcended for
twenty-three years (this year), and very often I wish so much that I could
be able to physically see her and speak with her again.
I do not need tell you that your dear one has only physically left this plain. She will still come to you from time to time, and you will know when she is there. I realize that you will not be able to have your visits in the manner which you are accustomed, but in time you will learn a new means to have your visits.
Again, I extend my full condolences to you, and your family, in the
physical loss of someone so dear to you. I know that it will be difficult for
a time for all of you.

Sincerely,
Blix

P.S. For this message, I have turned off my big flappy avatar as part of my expression of sympathy and respect at your loss.

Hello again,- Dear Autumn, I am so very sorry about you husband's Grandmother. - My own Father trancended just last year. - He developed lung cancer at 81, after smoking unfiltered camels since long before I was born. - He died well, if that can be said, with his children holding his hands, in his own home, and after having done everything and said all that he needed to. - .... He is still with me, I sense his presence daily. - He left his cremated remains with me also, and I have a nice ancestor shrine put together for them. - -- Tone of voice is so hard to convey online. Please let me assure you that you have my deepest sympathy and understanding. Brightest Blessings,- Cobweb

Hello again!,-
- On the mushroom subject, I think the difficulty will come in deciding what kind of mushrooms they are. - Some are edible and/or medicinal, others are poisonous. (eek!) - ( Like I'm one to talk, growing datura and trying to grow monkshood. )
- If you can put together a good description of them, I'm sure that between all us we can come up with some good possibilities as to what they are and what they're used for. Brightest Blessings!,- Cobweb

Hello,
Well, it would seem that I can not turn off my big flappy avatar ! I really
intended to do this, and I did do this, but I see the big flapper is still flapping ! Bad ole flapper....bad, bad ! GO to your room, you are grounded!
Terribly sorry that the flapper is so unruley. He is new, and I haven't quite got him trained yet.

Terribly sorry,

Greetings everyone, I woke up to a beautiful morning, nice and cool. I'm happy to say my blackberries are turning red and my pumpkin plants are doing really well, the girls are looking for the first pumpkin to appear. I figure with it being July now we should be getting one in maybe two weeks.

I have the pumpkins planted right next to my sidewalk coming up to the front of the house and for Halloween I'll be putting candles in between them. My front flower bed is all green right now. I'm bleeding hearts bush is down for the season and we have a few bulbs starting to bloom now but everything else is greens like hosta plants and spider plants so I'm going to be looking for some new flowers to put out there.

My mini tomato plant is growing well and they will be turning ripe soon plus I have one beefsteak tomato plant that's doing well too. Most of my violets are down now due to all the heat we've had. These past few days have been a killer with heat.

Well, in case I don't get back in Happy July 4th everyone.

You really need sunglasses for these past few weeks, muggy, hot and you don't know what to do with yourself except keep drinking something cold. I'm hoping we get some rain to day for the garden.

Have you ever noticed how well the gardens do after a good rain then just watering them with the hose. I've had to water them all week and their starting to wilt from the heat so your doing it twice a day but let it rain and it all looks beautiful again, the touch of mother nature..........

How was everyone's 4th of July weekend? We went to a party. The girls all made new friends. It was actually a long weekend for me and it took me this long to get back into the swing of things.

Greetings everyone, Thank goodness it rained here yesterday because I was on the computer from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. with breaks in between of course. My eyes were spinning from all the changes being made moving this here and that there and configuring everything under the sun. I'm back in today for a little while trying to get more done but it would be a big help if other could copy paste their started posts in and anything under them.

And on that note no garden for me today I have to get started again.

Safe Journey

Hey, Autumn!,- I didn't want you to think that everyone had up and left you! ~ The new forum is a little harder to navigate, I must admit. But I consider you a friend, and as long as you let me know where you are on the web, I'll be there!
~ Not much happening here. Just waiting for that darn hurricane to reach us. - I see you've started a second forum as well. I hope it 'blooms' for you!
~ I'm waiting on an AC adapter to arrive. (It was supposed to come with the scanner/printer, but someone boo - booed.) When it arrives, I'll begin selling my art online. - I'll definitely let you know.

Wow it's a hot one out there today! We have 90 here in Pa. It's funny, we had rain all weekend long and today you can't even tell with this heat. I'll be out watering flower beds tonight for sure.

The blackberries taste great everyone, another good crop. Madi loves loves them. We've been having them with eggs, in cereal, even just a cool snack while watching moves. Next I'll be picking to freeze them for winter months. I'm very pleased with the turn out this year and next year we'll have a second bush which can be strictly for the winter months picking.

As you all know I've been busy moving the old forum here and I still have a few things to move but for the most part we're almost done. I still have to figure out the imaging part here but I have some banners coming in soon to look at the give us a New look.

I hope everyone in the hurricanes path are safe we have a few members here so please let us know how your doing. We'll be sending Blessings your way.

Hello Everyone!
Well, I am not in the path of the hurricane, I am not even within many, many miles of it. However, here in Southern Illinois, we seem to be within its reach! It has rained steadily for the past 16 to 18 hours.
I am not kidding! It started raining around noon (or so) Monday, was rainning when I went to bed, and was raining when I woke up! It has continued to rain all day today, and it is now 5:30 p.m.!
At no time has it rained hard! The degree of 'shower'has ranged
from very, very light, to barely a detectable mist, but at no time (that I am aware of) has it stopped! The forecast is calling for much the same thing throughout the night, with the possibility of heavy rain, and/or thunder storms Wednesday.
I believe that I may have to build a very large boat like Gilgamesh!
Have a great day everyone!

Sincerely,
Blix

~Blix,- The rain is something, isn't it? One month it's a drought, the next it's a flood! - At least I know that we're not alone with the weird weather. It's flooding in China, while the monsoon was so late in India that people died from the heat! Glaciers are melting at a phenominal rate, and Mt.Kilamanjaro(sp.?) no longer has a snow cap!
~ It frightens me when I think about it for too long. Not that I'm a 'doom's day-er', mind you, but it is scary!
~Perhaps since Gilgamesh survived his flood, I can take a little assurance that we'll survive this. ~Brightest Blessings!,- Cobweb
~P.S.: - Perhaps I'll ask Autumn if I can do a piece on Gilgamesh.- I could put it in 'Myths and Legends.' ~

Cobweb,
Yep, floods where it normally is dry, super dry where its always been wet. Cold or very cool where it used to be really hot, and really hot where it used to be very cool or cold. Alaska residents in a terrible tizzy over the very marked increase in Glacier melting (though the worry seems to be due to future loss of revenue from tourists), and Swiss Alps officials having a company to create huge
'blankets' to cover the mountain 'caps' to slow down unusual melting during the summer months.

Global warming????? Bah...Humbug! It is a mere figment of some very over active imaginations!!!! I know this to be a fact, because I've heard our illustrious leader say so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello,
I forgot to mention that the rain has finally stopped. It is just very overcast. It could be that the main effects of our strange
'tropical' weather has passed, but I will not bet on it!

Rain, rain come again. My blackberry bush is blooming in. Oh how I love blackberries. What is bad for others is good for me at the moment.Yin and yang go figure!

My berries are big and plenty. Just got done putting up the vollyball net for the kids (and ME) and pick 4 pints of berries. Plus mowed the lawn and put little froggy back in the safe zone he was trying to go into the yard. I wouldn't like to mow him down.

The tadpoles are changing and I'm trying hard to keep their habitat safe back by the little water zone we made for them now that they're getting bigger I'll need to make them a bigger home.

My work is never done.......Girls watching a movie, baby napping on my lap, eating a tuna sandwhich with blackberries on the side and a tall drink back in here to the boards. I noticed I've missed a few things from the other board so I'll go back in tomorrow.

We have a few thunderstorm reaching us this week here in PA. So it looks like this huricane is making it's presence none.
Good luck where you are Cobweb.

Hello,
Black berries sound really great! I absolutely 'love' fresh black
berries. I believe that I mentioned before that the area around where I reside is covered with black berry patches. The bad thing is, one has to be very careful of poisonous snakes. Another thing which has always dismayed me, is that all of the really nice large berries always seem to be really deep within the patch! This always means lots
of scratches! Oh well, such are the sacrifices (blood in this case) of
the black berry lover! (sigh)
Tadpoles are really cool! It is nice that you have created a safe
place for them to finish their development.

Have a great evening,
Blix

~ Hello All! Please, no need to worry about the weather where I am. It's just very, very Wet. (!) The ground is all soggy and the rain keeps coming. - I might check the local Agriculture news, to see what the corn and soybean growers are saying about it. ( I bet they're not very happy...)
~ Ooh, the blackberries sound scrumptious! I may just have to find some myself! I've read in several newspapers and magazines over the past few years that something in blackberry wine prevents heart disease.- It's a part of mulberry wine, too. - ( I think it's an amino acid, that un - clogs arteries.) - But the berries have to ferment, to create it. It's the reason for an almost total absence of heart disease in France. (They drink alot of wine.)- A person only needs a glass a day, they say. I try to have some whenever I can.
~ Aren't tadpoles interesting? Amphibians are symbols of 'transformation' because they start off in life breathing with gills, then graduate to life on land. Due to the way they absorb moisture through thier skin, and thier sensitivity to chemicals and temperature changes, they are also an excellent scientific guage of enviromental changes. (When an ecosystem is ill, the frogs are the first ones to go.) - Please pardon me. I'm fascinated by science, and I love animals.
~ I can just picture you playing volleyball with your daughters, Autumn.(It's a nice picture.) - Who usually wins? (ha ha)
~ Well, I really love talking with you all, but it is getting late here. I have to be out of bed fairly early, to be ready to answer the door for the UPS truck. ( My life is so exciting!)
~ I'm including a cute picture of a little frog I found online. After reading the posts here, I thought of it. - Very Brightest Blessings! -~ Cobweb

This a beautiful day! Greetings everyone. The fun thing about playing vollyball with the girls 11,7 and 8 months is we stop to snack on ? You got it the blackberries right next to us...
Even Madi the littlest one loves to eat them.

We don't keep score but we do have fun when we play badmit and the birdy gets stuck up it the pine tree........

How's everyone doing today? I got an early start with the little one today and now it's 8:25 a.m. and she'll be going down for a nap. The other two will be getting up soon.

Sad to say my rose blossoms have faded until fall time now but my butterfly bush is starting to bloom and the flowers are up on the pumpkin plants in the front now.

Looks like the rain is missing us we were suppose to get thunderstorm the last two days but it was a clear day all day yesturday and with the hot weather I'll need to go get some more fresh water for the tadpoles, sink water isn't good to use. So we'll either venture to the state park or the river and of course the girl will want to catch a baby fish to bring home to keep Moby company.

Moby is a tiny fish we caught last year with seven others, he ate them and swims a lone. He an inch long and looks like a bass but it's really to soon to tell. We feed him blood warm in this 10 gallon tank. Hey he still thinks he's Free........ Rocks and all to make it feel like a pond just like he came from. But he's not alone in the house we have another tank filled with 7 goldfish (from the pet store). They eat live worms.

As you can see we're a family for animals. We have a squirrel outside we call Rocky he does a trick. He lays out like a bear skin rug just to get his nuts. Now I don't know for sure it's the same one but there are two that do the trick so the girls call them both Rocky which one really is him I can't tell but the other one learned if you want a nut you have to do the trick.......

~ Autumn, that is wonderful! You have, for all intents and purposes, 'trained' two squirrels. (!)
~ I bet it's fascinating, watching a wild - caught little fish grow, and wondering what he is. -
~ I am so terribly sorry, but it is very, very late,(or early, depending on your viewpoint), and I have spent most of the night writing my piece on Gilgamesh.- I'll have to cut this post short. - I hadn't realized how long the Gilgamesh story is! I will type it in later today, after I've slept. -
~ I'm so glad to hear that you and your girls are enjoying the summer. I'm such a home-body. You're inspiring me to get outdoors.
~ I'll post some more later, after I finish with Gilgamesh.
~ Very Brightest Blessings!,- Cobweb

Greetings everyone, I hope everyone is finding sunny days now. I have been keeping quite busy. I just received a contract for one of my poems for a greeting card company to use. I'm working hard at getting avatars in at both forums. I just picked up the book Moby Dick from the Library (It's a favorite of mine) I wanted to read it to the baby.

We're going looking at a house the end of this week with hopes to buy. We have a big family three girls me my husband two cats the fish and tadpoles too. I'd take the squirrels even if they would come and I'm trying to find homes for the stray kittens they come on the back steps now for food and drinks.

With July half way through I need to start thinking about school clothes for the girls and keep watering the pumpkin and watermelon plants.

I know the forum is slow right now but I'm working on getting more people in here. As you can tell by now I'm a multi tasker. I feed off knowledge and love trying new things. So don't worry I haven't given up on the site and have more ideas.
