TOPIC OF THE MONTH

My Vision For Spiritual Beginnings

When I first started Spiritual Beginnings I wasn't sure how well it was going to go over. In fact I wasn't sure of anything. I was new to running a forum so how was I going to get it up and running? How was I going to get people to want to be here?

I started with the name. Spiritual Beginnings wasn't going to be just about Religious Paths I wanted it to be about growing, learning, finding out things you wanted to know about but just never found the time to do it. I wanted to give people a place to come to find answers too their questions. I wanted them to be able to say I just learned something I never knew before,"You should try it out, it's filled with alot of different things like........" And there you have it word of month. You talk about learning something new, you change something about you (in a positive way I hope) and people see you growing Spiritually. In return they come in and find something they too would like to learn as well.

Now I don't want to worry about how many people are coming in here I was just hoping for 50 tops but in these short months of just starting 25 people are signed up and that's not counting any of the guests. So, I'm very pleased. This isn't about members joining but about members getting to know one another learning and passing it on.

I would like this site here to be the Base Site, the beginning for you and myself. Once we have experienced people in all the right areas teaching and passing on their knowledge which I'm thankful for because they are all taking the time out of their lifes to do this voluntarily. I would then like to venture to the next step making this my own home business and a more advanced teaching site Spiritual Journey's and from there a third site Spiritual Life's.

Once I turn this into my home business I would like to pay all the teachers so there would be a small membership fee for the other two sites but the first site will remain Totally Free. Spiritual Beginnings will never have to pay for anything. However I would like the Spiritual Beginings Post to go over really well so I might be able to market it on New Stands which would have a subscription price but for this I would like to give a free copy to anyone who has something running in that issue.

The reason behide three sites is simple I would like the communities to stay small, friendly, family oriented. I want Spiritual Beginnings to be known for these three things and I want it to be for everyone.

I hope you all like my vision for Spiritual Beginnings. It will be growing with us and changing as it changes over to a new site for more advanced learning. A very important part of Spiritual Beginnings is the *Round Table* where you the members have free say of how you would like to see the community change.

With this end I'd like to say thank you to all the members for helping Spiritual Beginnings grow. I look forward to all your input.

BOOK REVIEWS

"Lady of the Beasts", by Buffie Johnson

The author Buffie Johnson, dedicated 44 years of her life to the study of ancient artifacts and texts in order to compile this incredibly
comprehensive tome. The 'Forward', in which she describes the experiences that led her to write "Lady of the Beasts", includes a description of her conversations with Carl Jung, the famed psychologist, whom she admired a great deal.

This book contains beautiful photos of ancient, pre - Christian diety carvings, statuary and cave paintings which I've never seen anywhere else. I seriously suspect that a person would be hard - pressed to find them elsewhere. For example, while most modern Pagans are familiar with the Venus of Willendorf, a wonderful Paleolithic period Goddess with ample breasts and buttocks, "Lady if the Beasts" also provides photos of at least nine other Goddess figures, dating from 18,000 to 40,000 B.C.E., (none less than 16,000 years older than the Judaic Yahweh).
Seeing these magnificent statues and intricate carvings, I cannot help but wonder why they are not more commonly known.

The book is written in thirteen 'sections', (the use of the number 13 being a 'plus' in my book), each dedicated to a different animal and it's association with a Goddess or Goddesses. For example, part four, "The Serpent" is as with each section, lavishly illustrated with rare pictures. My personal favorite here is Zeus, in his serpent form, on page 159. It is a deeply cut three dimensional carving from 4,000 B.C.E., (fully 2,000 years before the advent of Judaism and the demonifation of snakes), undeniably stunning and detailed right down to his beard!
I must also mention a picture from part eight, "the Deer". On page 219 there is an incredible carving from the temple of Ninkursag in Sumer. It is of Ingudud, " the Lion - Bird of the storm", who guards the temple with two stags. (How I wish I could share this photo. It truly has to be seen to be appreciated!)

Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone involved in Goddess studies, particularly if the fauna of the Natural world also appeals to them. - It is a lavish, richly illustrated volume, filled with fascinating historical references and little - known facts. - It is superb as both a coffee table book and a study reference.
On a scale of one to five, I'd give it a four and a half!

Brightest Blessings, Cobweb

POEM OF THE MONTH

From the flowerfairy books Ive known it since I was a child.
written by onyx

Cool dewy morning,
Blue skey at noon,
White mist at evening,
Large yellow moon.

Black berries jucy for staining of lips,
but oh scarlet oh scarlet,
the wild rosehips.

Gay as a gypsy all autumn long,
Hear on the hedgerow this is my song.

My berries cluster black and thick,
for rich and poor alike to pick,
Ill tare your dress,
Ill cling and tease,
Ill scratch your face,
your hands your knees.
But when the bramble jellys made you'll find your troubles well repaid.
