Posted - July 08 2005 : 10:49:13 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone, My home isn't really big. I live in town so I've turned my little area into a small piece of nature where I can get back to the country which I'm a country girl at heart.
I have five small flowerbed areas around my home and my favorite area is my big blackberry bush. Last year I had berries the size of quarters big and juicey! This year we're off to a great start I've cut it back watched it bud flowers and I'm letting the bees do their work the berries are already forming. With three children you can imagine how quick the berries go so I transplanted a small piece of the berry bush into a pot and I'm going to get a second bush growing. I like to freeze some of the berries so we have them over the winter months. Berries are a great source of so much stuff the body really needs they work wonders on the immune system.
Today it's quite hot out in the mid 80's so I'm staying in doors keeping cool with the little one Madi and tonight like each night I'll go out and water everything really good.
So stop in here and time to talk with me. We can sit on the deck under the big pine tree and just listen to the birds and watch the squirrels go crazy you might even see Rocky our favorite squirrel he does tricks for peanuts. He lays out like a bear skin rug, It's so cute.
I hope each one of you will make a place here in the gathering like me In The Garden so we can really get to know each other and talk like long time friends. What is your garden like? (Make each one of your personal threads a Sticky so we can find them easy) _________________ WE ARE ALL UNITED, ALL PATHS LEAD TO ONE POINT, SO SPEAK NO UNKIND WORDS, TOSS NOT A SINGLE STONE. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We had a terrible thunderstorm the other day. Tree limbs down all over the yard, pieces of roof tops as well. Fun thing is I just got done cleaning up the mess from the storm the day before and another one hit us. We believe a tornado blew thru because all over town trees where up rooted, tree limbs down, garbage cans turned over and trees in homes even and a roof off the recylcing center. We had dime size hail and flooding that happened so quick it was a white out condition. So I spent yesturday cleaning that mess up with more storms to come.
Thank goodness no one was hurt and my blackberry bush is still standing. I remember the first year I planted it we had a bad storm that snapped the main branch but it survived then and it survived this last storm. My roses are in full bloom now and I've got small tomatoe plants growing with pumpkin and watermelon this year. I planted the pumpkin are by my front walkway so I can leave them on the vines and place candles out between them this fall. It will be Madi's first birthday party and with it so close to Halloween we're invited the family over for a Halloween Birthday Party. It was strange to see my pumpkin plants blown over by the storm, one here one there this one not touched still standing tall while the one next to it blown right to the ground. But it looks like they have all made it thru as well. _________________ WE ARE ALL UNITED, ALL PATHS LEAD TO ONE POINT, SO SPEAK NO UNKIND WORDS, TOSS NOT A SINGLE STONE. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Morning everyone. I hope you all had a nice weekend! I took the girls to the pool yesturday they all had a great time. School is out for the summer and as soon as we walked in my daughter Bea had friends calling her over to swim with them. Bea and a little boy Eric are both really popular with the kids and their just going into second grade now. My oldest daughter had a few of her friends there as well but being they're older you know they play it cool. Myself and Madi as so met up with a friend one of the other mother was there and we sat with her while Madi napped then we took Madi to the toddler pool. Madi loved it. So Sunday went well for us just enjoying ourselves and resting up from the long working week before.
Please feel free to stop in and visit me any time. I'm always in the garden planting and carrying for my flowers. Bea just planted some watermelon the other day to go with our pumpkins she'll be happy we the first seedling pops up. Our pumpkin seedlings are about three inches high now.
With summer vacation here we like to do a lot of different things with the girls. And fathers day around the corner will be our next full day outing. Fishing with dad. What does your family do for father's day? _________________ WE ARE ALL UNITED, ALL PATHS LEAD TO ONE POINT, SO SPEAK NO UNKIND WORDS, TOSS NOT A SINGLE STONE. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Boy have I been busy in the garden this past week. My pumpkin seeds are growing really well, waiting for the first pumpkin siting though. The watermelon is popping up and my tomotoes are in bloom now we just need them to start turning red. I like to mix my veggies with my flowers because it helps with bugs. The roses are in full bloom but this heat isn't helping them much. Strawberries are red and ready to eat which keeps me watching the blackberries. My bush is twice in size this year. It's about 5 feet by 7 ft in size.
The girls small pool is up and I can't wait for Madi to get into it with them she'll love it. These next few days will be great for that being the temp's are raising again.
Now I'm going on and on someone please come visit me and tell me all about your gardens. _________________ WE ARE ALL UNITED, ALL PATHS LEAD TO ONE POINT, SO SPEAK NO UNKIND WORDS, TOSS NOT A SINGLE STONE. REACH OUT YOUR HAND TO ME AND I SHALL TAKE IT. Back to top Cobweb

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, me again!,- You'd never guess it to look at me, but I spent 6 years of my childhood on a farm in Tennessee. - My parents had a fairly large garden, with green beans, tomatoes, corn and squash; Okra and eggplant and peas and potatoes. - My beloved mother still gardens, tomatoes, mostly. I haven't a clue what I'm doing wrong, but all I've been able to grow so far are thistles and devil's trumpet, (a common local 'weed'). -We have moon flowers, but I have to give full credit for them to my other half. -Until we moved, he had the lovliest rose bushes. My compliments on your 'green thumb'! Brightest Blessings,- Cobweb Back to top AutumnClair Site Admin

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well I have to say that's mostly my granny's doing. As a child before we would leave from visiting her she would walk us around her gardens showing us all the new plants she got and would tell us a story with each one, how they got their name, what they're used for health wise and superstitious. My granny was half Indian. So I learned alot from her even though she was only with me for what seemed like a blink of an eye she died when I was 11 from cancer but what she taught me stuck with me because I loved her so much.
I have to say violets don't like me if I plant them outside they do great but if I try to keep one in the house they always die and I can't figure out why. _________________ WE ARE ALL UNITED, ALL PATHS LEAD TO ONE POINT, SO SPEAK NO UNKIND WORDS, TOSS NOT A SINGLE STONE. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello Everyone ! Listening to everyone talk about gardening, makes me wish that I could have one. I just love to 'tinker' around with plants of any type. It is very relaxing, and you get a great feeling of accomplishment (not to mention a lot of really good things to eat). Unfortunately, where I reside right now, it is impossible for me to do any type of gardening, because I just do not have any room. I have to resign myself to just listening to the progress of others, and rectify the situation next year! Autumn, I can tell that you have been gardening for awhile, because planting certain flowers with, and/or around the veggies, is the perfect (natural) insect deterrant ! I applaud you ! Your discription of your black berry bush has me in high anticipation of the berries comming into season around here. There are wild 'patches' all over the place! I wish everyone the best with your projects, and may all your gardens, whether veggie or flower, be tended and watched over by the fair folk! Do not forget to leave them refreshments, because gardening is very thirsty work !

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I must say the weather is extremely warm these days. My garden needs my help
I try to water it early morning because at night with the heat it just evaporates so I want it to get as much as possible to drink in the morning for the next day. If it cools a bit at night I'll water it then as well.
Well I'm off to venture out for a while.........

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Good for you Cobweb, let me know how you do with them. I would like to try lavender and rosemary but I'm afriad I might not do well at it. I've never tried to grow those yet.
I have good news today. When watering my blackberry bush I found a few berries starting to ripen. I'm so excited! Which brings me to a question for all who love to garden. I have some wild mushrooms growing around the blackberry bush. Does anyone know a healing use for them or a spell in need of them?
I like to find uses for new things I find in my garden. So I'm always eager to learn more if you'd like to talk about uses for flowers.
On a sad note here. My husbands grandmother pass on over the weekend. With some miss understandings in the family when his grandfather died I didn't want to have the girls see any family feuding so I stayed away from the hospital when they were giving her, her last rights.
I received the call Sunday morning and it really didn't start to hit me emotionally until now with everything happening Tomorrow. I really liked his grandparents and his grandmother reminded me of my granny. I'm not sure if I want to go to the viewing because it's effecting me in away that's different from the family, it fills my heart with all the saddness from missing my granny and now that they meet in the otherworld I know they'll have much to talk about she was a very kind woman and her gift to me was her kindness and how she gave me glimspes of what I had forgotten as a child when my own grandmother died.
I'm afraid I will now with time forget them again, I know my mind is now of an adult but it took so long to remember things I wonder if they will once again disappear. His grandmother lived a long healthy life, very nice woman who welcomed me into the family. I loved playing bingo with her and she would just talk forever with me. I came to think of her as a second grandmother to me. _________________ WE ARE ALL UNITED, ALL PATHS LEAD TO ONE POINT, SO SPEAK NO UNKIND WORDS, TOSS NOT A SINGLE STONE. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Autumn, I am sorry to hear about the physical loss of someone so dear, which you have just suffered. My own Grandmother has been transcended for twenty-three years (this year), and very often I wish so much that I could be able to physically see her and speak with her again. I do not need tell you that your dear one has only physically left this plain. She will still come to you from time to time, and you will know when she is there. I realize that you will not be able to have your visits in the manner which you are accustomed, but in time you will learn a new means to have your visits. Again, I extend my full condolences to you, and your family, in the physical loss of someone so dear to you. I know that it will be difficult for a time for all of you.
Sincerely, Blix

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello again,- Dear Autumn, I am so very sorry about you husband's Grandmother. - My own Father trancended just last year. - He developed lung cancer at 81, after smoking unfiltered camels since long before I was born. - He died well, if that can be said, with his children holding his hands, in his own home, and after having done everything and said all that he needed to. - .... He is still with me, I sense his presence daily. - He left his cremated remains with me also, and I have a nice ancestor shrine put together for them. - -- Tone of voice is so hard to convey online. Please let me assure you that you have my deepest sympathy and understanding. Brightest Blessings,- Cobweb Back to top Cobweb

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello again!,- - On the mushroom subject, I think the difficulty will come in deciding what kind of mushrooms they are. - Some are edible and/or medicinal, others are poisonous. (eek!) - ( Like I'm one to talk, growing datura and trying to grow monkshood. ) - If you can put together a good description of them, I'm sure that between all us we can come up with some good possibilities as to what they are and what they're used for. Posted - June 20 2006 : 10:50:01 It's been a while since I've last been in here but that is not to say my gardening has stopped. My small veggie garden is filled with carrots, cucumber, lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon, cantilope?, corn, strawberries and a Blackberries bush.
I've set up my garden pond with Iris, tall grass, periwinkle and sunflower. The pond is filled with nudes, fish and a frog. I started some herbs in my kitchen windowsill and I have lavender planted by my deck. I have roses and another blackberry bush, lots of sunflowers and of course my favorite the bleedingheart bush.
And I just keep adding to it all.
I'd love to here what you have growing in your gardens. |

Posted - January 13 2006 : 07:25:41 Greetings everyone, as you know with the winter months there's not much time to garden so we move our gardens inside. Recently I've moved from being in a crowded town to the countryside I grew up in. My new home has big windows and a wrap around deck and a yard for my children. A Big yard.
I started my seedlings the beginning of the week and alround they are popping out from under the soil. The first to show was my sunflower seeds. I like to use the ones put in the wildbird seed mix., Next to show was the thyme. Yes, I've started some herbs which is a first year of me trying an herb garden. I have some rosemary and lavender, mint, danilion for my little bea she loves them. I also have for get me not and rock soapwort. I think I named them all. I start a set of twelve and a few I have two of.
I have a big windowsill in my kitchen now which still grows the tomatoe plant from the fall which is flowering and then a few favorite plants ivy, fade, spiderplant and one I don't know the name of I'll discribe it for you and maybe someone here will know the name. It's a bulb plant tiny bulbs. and It looks like butterflies dark purple butterflies. When I look at it I think of the winnie the pooh movie where piglet gets carried off by butterflies that are all on a bush. Anyone know?
Have you started anything yet? |

Posted - December 02 2005 : 12:03:04 I've been so busy lately that the months have just been flying by. We've recently moved and we're thrilled by it. We have a great big yard and lots of room to grow flowers and have a veggie garden, I'm even going to start an herb garden here as well.
I have one tomatoe plant left that sits in my window sill I'm hoping it will give me some tomatoes thru the winter months it's just starting the flower now. So wish me luck with it.
It's been snowing out all morning here but I'm sure we will only get maybe three inches of snow. I've moved most of my flowers with me and I can't wait to get them settled in this spring. |

Posted - October 12 2005 : 07:38:17 Greetings everyone, I've been so busy this month. Madison will be turning one next week and we're having a party for her this weekend. Halloween is coming up and we have had a lot of rain this month. My one daughter is in band and basketball so I'm running around for that as well.
I was hoping to get decoration out for the party but with this rain I'll have to wait. I'm trying to catch up here and get into the other forum as well. Who knew Oct. could get this busy. School parties and dances. |

Posted - September 22 2005 : 11:47:35 Hello everyone, It's that time of year again when the full moon shines bright into our windows, a chill in the air at night and you really don't know what to wear. In the morning it's cooler but by noon time your toast.
I've had my first cold, sore throat itching, fever watering eyes and all stuffed up. Thank goodness it's starting to clear,I think a lot of it had to do with fall allergies taking hold.
I love to decorate for fall so you can believe my surprise when I found a gumball size watermelon now starting to grow by my front walk way. Two infact. The girls want to keep them watered to see how big they'll get. What luck I'm having..........
Here I was starting to decorate for Halloween getting ready for pumpkins, candles and mums. How are your decorating ideas coming? |

Posted - September 11 2005 : 13:13:00 Greetings Everyone. We decided to go with a Cat Cemetery themes for our front yard. I started hanging out the purple lights on the front porch and cobwebs. The girls got two fake snakes to put on the front porch and we got a coffin door bell ringer. We picked up small tombstones and we're going to place them throughout the front yard with cat names on them. It will look nice once the leafs start to fall in the yard so we can pile graves for the cats.
I figured I'd do a little bit at a time I can't make it to scarey. Madi is only turn 1 year old. But, I want it all done for her Halloween birthday party.
I have been encourage the real spiders around here to make lots of webs for I won't be cleaning them up for a while now. It's a great Halloween addition when spiders help. |

Posted - September 06 2005 : 07:53:20 Greetings everyone! The month of Sept. is here and with it cooler nights. Trees are starting to turn for the fall season and I've started decorating.
I like to start by cleaning up the yard of old branches that have fallen down, pulling weeds and mulching. I've cut my long grass half length and I use the tops for fall decoration around the front porch. Next I'll buy some mums of all colors, corn stalks this way the squirrels around my home have some nice corn for a treat and then I'll look for fall leaves and pumpkins to come in. With the leafs already starting to turn I'm wondering if we're even going to get a winter.
I'd love to hear about your fall decorations as the season sets in. |

Posted - August 30 2005 : 08:16:10 Greetings everyone, the month of August is almost over yet we still have some warm days ahead of us. The nights are usually cooler by now but we are finding here in PA. we are still holding on to nights in the high 60's.We've had some rain the past two days but it doesn't seem to cool us down any in fact we seem to get more muggy with it.
Kids are starting back to school and everyone is looking forward to fall this year. Waiting impatiently for the cool down. I have been getting ready for the changing seasons and holidays. With plans on putting up my christmas lights the first full week of school for the kids.
I have been quite busy these past few weeks, my neighbor has moved with her son and we've been exchanging numbers and addresses and making plans for play dates with the children. Madi is now 10 months old and her little boy is 11 months. Of course we'll have birthday parties to give out invites to however mine will be a bit different.
Madi will be having a Halloween birthday party. So I will have my hands full. School in, birthday party coming, running forums. Plus it will be quite different for Madi in the house with the girls going to school she'll need me to show her how to play alone and to spend more time with her during this transition. |

Posted - August 19 2005 : 06:06:37 ~ Oh, I love Nature! I grew up on a farm. We didn't move to town until I was 16. ~ If it's not a hassle, by all means, try to upload the picture. - It's already my avatar somewhere else, so the size is probably alright. ~ My looks? I have to laugh at myself, but it's true.: Imagine Morticia Addams, and you're almost there. I very seldom wear anything that isn't black, and my hair,(dyed black for over ten years now), is just reaching my knees. - Brown eyes, 95 pounds. (When people that I meet comment, I tell them that I'm "post-goth". ) ~ The corn stalks reminded me of an April Fool's day many years back. - My parents always planted a little backyard garden, mostly tomatos, and every morning they'd look out the window to see if anything might have grown during the night.- In my never-ending pursuit of wholesome fun, I drove out to a corn field and dug up a few stalks. I transplanted them behind the tomatos in the wee hours of the morning.Needless to say, they were surprised. ~ Very Brightest Blessings,~ Cobweb |

Posted - August 18 2005 : 06:13:55 Greetings, It's an early rise here this morning. If you'd like I'll try to put the image in for you? Mine is a somewhat like me image Alburn hair, brown eyes, and I'm letting it grow long again. My hairs at the shoulder blades right now but mine is wavie. I love the garden so much that I like to sit outside read, write, hear all the animals.
My sunflowers are up already about 5 inches in their pot. Alas I'm in town if could I'd grow my own corn stalks too. I'm one of a few country houses in town, we grow lots of flowers a few veggies and decorate for nature.I'm not a town person at all. I grew up in the countryside with farms and lots of pets. |

Posted - August 17 2005 : 22:28:37 ~ Autumn,~ As always, you leave me envious of your botanical talents. - I can't even get my peach pits to sprout. (ha ha) ~ I think that the cooler nights are because of the seasonal shift. - The Summer Equinox has just passed, around July 21st. - Each day after that, the days get shorter and shorter until the Winter Equinox. - ~ I just love crickets. We have cicadas here, too, and they make the most fascinating sort of high-pitched whine. - Some people say that they're nerve-wracking, but I've just adored them since I was a kid. - I can remember finding the ocassional dicarded "shell" clinging to a tree, or a piece of lawn furniture. I always felt extrordinarily lucky. I'd carry it around all day, which of course thoroughly "grossed out" my poor mother. ~ You have to buy corn stalks where you live? - Jeepers, Autumn, you can hardly escape them here! (I really don't enjoy living in 'corn country' ) - Every year, at least one local farmer cuts a 'maze' out of his corn field, and charges a couple dollars for visitors to walk it. It's fun. ~ I could tell you about the albino squirrels not far from here, but I'd better save something for next time. ~ Very Brightest Blessings,~ Cobweb
P.S.~ I liked your picture. I assume that's you, in your garden? - Of course I had to try to find something that I thought might resemble me...(ha ha) - Honestly, if I could have this for an avatar, I would.

Greetings everyone, We finally got a cool down it was 63 last night and only suppose to be 70 today. I hope they're right! I do know this every August around 15th and on we get cooler nights. Why this is scientificaly I'd like to know. A climate change, new season coming. I'm sure someone hear could explain it to me. But with out fail in changes about the same time every year that's how I can tell the fall season is approaching us. The crickets get louder at night and the temp. get cooler.
Not to say that summer is gone no we have had quite a change for our days these past four years we have ended up with warm day up until early Nov. It the 80's sometimes. They call it our Indian Summer. Does anyone no where that phase actual came from. Indian Summer?
We have some new comers to the forum, as always I'd love to hear about your gardens. I have a few fall flowers I'm waiting on to bloom now, however to have more colour in my home I decided to plant sunflowers last week and they've already popped up out of the soil. I planted ten. I'm keeping them in the house until they get big enough to put out for Halloween time and waiting til the last minute because our squirrel love to eat my sunflowers. I hope buying cornstalks will be a good distraction. |
